Featured Review Dark Energy Reservoir External Battery Pack

With more and more devices having an enclosed battery that is not removable, we are seeing more and more external battery packs available. We’ve even seen a few of these battery packs hit around 20,000mAh in size. Today, we’re taking a look at the Dark Energy Reservoir external battery pack, which is a 8,000mAh battery in size. It’s pretty small too. It’s dimensions are 5.5″ x 2.75″ x 1″.

As normal with external battery packs, all you need to do is plug in your phone and hit the power button. So setup is very easy. The only downside is that the Dark Energy Reservoir doesn’t come with a built-in microUSB cable. It does have a microUSB cable to charge it, but it’s not built in. Which would have been a very nice addition. On the front end, you’ve got two USB ports and a microUSB port. So you are able to charge two devices at the same time. There’s also a microUSB port so you can go ahead and charge your Reservoir. It’s said to charge up in about 4-6 hours, although I didn’t time it, it did seem to charge up pretty quickly considering how large the battery is.

In my personal experience with the Dark Energy Reservoir, I was able to charge my Moto X about 3 times, when it was below 20%. Which is pretty good, and should get you through a nice weekend of camping, or when the power goes out, like during a hurricane or something. But if you’re carrying it every day to charge your phone when you’re on the go, it’ll more than do the job. As far as the size goes, it’s about the same size as my Moto X, but a tiny bit taller and a bit thicker in size. Which is expected since it is a pretty massive battery. Dark Energy says it’s good for about 500 cycles of charging up the Reservoir. Which obviously I can’t test for a while as I only need to charge this only a few times a week at the most.
